Custom silicone orthoses
At Estonian Foot Clinic, we provide custom-made silicone orthoses designed to relieve pain, correct toe positioning, and improve foot biomechanics.
Custom orthoses are small medical devices made individually for each patient to reduce pressure, redistribute load on the foot, and protect sensitive areas.
What can orthoses help with?
Foot deformities can be fully corrected primarily in children under the age of 16, while the musculoskeletal system is still developing.
For adults, structural deformities cannot always be completely corrected. However, properly designed orthoses can significantly reduce pain, prevent further deformity, and greatly improve quality of life.
Orthoses are commonly used for:
- Corns and calluses
- Toe deformities (including overlapping toes)
- Flat feet
- Joint changes and arthritis
- Bursitis
- Bone spurs and bone growths
- Nerve pain and pressure points
- Skin fissures and pressure-related skin damage
How custom orthoses work
Orthoses help correct the position of the toes and redistribute pressure across the foot. Because bone alignment plays a major role in foot deformities, adjusting this position may initially feel unusual.
For this reason, patients should gradually adapt to wearing the orthosis:
- Start with short periods of walking.
- Gradually increase wearing time.
- Eventually wear the orthosis throughout the day if recommended.
Proper adaptation ensures maximum comfort and therapeutic benefit.
Individually designed for your feet
Custom toe orthoses are made from medical-grade two-component silicone, which is flexible, durable, and comfortable to wear.
Creating an effective orthosis requires a deep understanding of foot anatomy and biomechanics. Our specialists carefully evaluate:
- The distribution of pressure on the foot
- Areas of excessive load or friction
- The patient’s walking pattern
- Changes in foot position depending on footwear
This personalized approach allows us to design an orthosis that fits perfectly and provides optimal support.
Adjustment and replacement
Over time, orthoses may require adjustment or replacement.
A worn or flattened orthosis may lose its effectiveness and could even cause additional pressure on the foot. For this reason, replacement is typically recommended every 5–6 months, although simpler orthoses may need to be replaced more frequently.
Orthoses come in various shapes and designs, depending on the type and severity of the foot condition.
Comfortable and easy to maintain
Properly designed orthoses are comfortable to wear and discreet inside footwear.
For hygiene purposes, they can be washed with warm soapy water. If necessary, the orthosis can also be adjusted or extended to maintain its effectiveness.
