FungiCheck – A fast and accurate test for detecting nail fungus at the Foot Clinic
Have you noticed yellowing, thickening, brittleness, or other changes in your nails? These may be signs of onychomycosis, a fungal infection that affects the nails. At the Foot Clinic, we now offer a reliable and modern diagnostic solution: FungiCheck – a rapid dermatophyte detection test.
What is Onychomycosis and why does it occur?
Onychomycosis is a fungal infection that affects both fingernails and toenails. It is most commonly caused by dermatophytes—filamentous fungi that feed on keratin, a structural component of nails, skin, and hair. In rarer cases, the infection may be caused by non-dermatophyte molds or yeasts.
The most common dermatophytes causing nail fungal infections
- Trichophyton rubrum (up to 70% of cases)
- Trichophyton mentagrophytes
- Epidermophyton floccosum
Without accurate diagnostics, it can be difficult to determine whether nail changes are truly caused by a fungal infection or by another nail condition, such as psoriasis, trauma, or yellow nail syndrome. Studies show that every third visual diagnosis of nail fungus is incorrect, which is why precise testing is essential.
Why choose FungiCheck?
Results in just 10 minutes – you receive the answer directly during your visit.

How the test works
A nail sample is taken from the affected area.
The sample is placed in a test tube with a reagent.
A special solution is added and the mixture is shaken.
A test strip is inserted, which reacts to the presence of dermatophytes.
The result appears within 5–10 minutes.
Test results
One line (pink): negative result (no fungal infection detected).
Two lines (pink + gray/purple): positive result (dermatophytes detected).
FungiCheck detects the most important dermatophytes, including Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Microsporum canis, Epidermophyton floccosum, and others.
